Mankwe Camp Sites, Botswana

*** Please note that the Mankwe main lodge and pool area were burnt down in July 2016. However, a temporary main tent is in place. A swimming pool is due to be installed in September 2017.  Guest tents were unaffected by the fire. ***

Situated between the Moremi Game Reserve and the Chobe National Park, Mankwe is an ideal gateway to exploring this area. Moremi is undoubtedly one of the most famous Parks in Africa, and a protected area of the Okavango Delta.

Moremi is situated in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango, and includes the Moremi Tongue and Chief’s Island, boasting one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems on the continent.

This makes for spectacular game viewing and bird watching, including all major naturally occurring herbivore and carnivore species in the region, and over 400 species of birds, many migratory and some endangered. Both Black and White Rhino have recently been re-introduced, now making the reserve a ‘Big Five’ destination.

Contained within an area of approximately 3900 sq. kms, here land and Delta meet to create an exceedingly picturesque preserve of floodplains – either seasonally or perennially wet, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, grasslands and riparian, riverine and mopane forests. This terrain makes driving Moremi’s many loops and trails both delightful and, at times, totally inspiring.

Overlooking the bush and mopane forest, Mankwe’s campsites offer the intrepid self-drive camper with bush campsites that are equipped with shower, flush toilet and wash basin. Water is provided for campers, but this is not drinking water (please bring your own supply) Each campsite is provided with firewood on the first night. Additional firewood is available to purchase at the main lodge.

Each campsite can accommodate a maximum of 16 guests in one group and 3 or 4 vehicles.

A campsite is booked for exclusive use for your group, be you two or twenty travelers in a group. A campsite is not shared with other travelers that are not part of your group.

Visitors at Mankwe campsites have access to the main lodge and its guest facilities; lounge area, bar and swimming pool. All campers must report to the main lodge reception for check in. Campers may also book and settle direct for meals at Mankwe main lodge.

Mankwe’s campsites can be accessed in 2x4 vehicles, but the roads in the area are very sandy, so ideally it is better to have a vehicle with 4x4 capabilities. Driving time from Maun is approximately 1hr45 minutes.

Trips can be arranged between Mankwe and the Mboma Boat Station up into the Okavango Delta, offering the visitor a unique safari tour with a full day’s game viewing in between. Mankwe also offers game drives in 4x4 safari vehicles on its own concession area.
